Get the Look: Sheridan Smith in Cilla

20 Sep

Have you been watching Cilla, the new three-part biopic about sixties redhead Cilla Black? Sheridan Smith looks AMAZING as a redhead. I loved her style before when she played a redhead in Mrs Biggs, so couldn’t wait when I heard she was returning to our screens as Cilla.  The sixties dresses and hair are to die for.

Get the Look: Sixties Tartan Dress

Tartan often makes an autumn comeback, and it’s big for autumn/winter 2014. Its practical colour combinations and no-nonsense print means you can go for more subtle version for the office or punk it up for weekend coffees with the girls. Here’s how to get wear your tartan dress, Cilla-style.

LONG-SLEEVES, DON’T CARE

At only £12, this dress is an absolute steal. The long sleeves and high neckline are great for the colder months but the mid calf length stops it from being too frumpy. Team it up with tights and boots.

The thing I like about these coordinated separates is that you get several outfits for the price of one. Wear together as a dress, the skirt with a top or shirt and the top with trousers and bingo, three outfits! Plus if you want to go crazy, you can even buy matching leggings!

Cindy Turtle Neck Dress, £38, Motel

Ok, so not quite 1960s, but there’s something about this plaid print dress that I just love. Wear it on its own for a night out, or slip it on over some warm woolly tights and a nice sensible coat and you’re good to go.

In case you missed the first episode, here’s a preview! Let me know if you’d like to see more of Cilla’s style!

This George at Asda playsuit, £14 is a pretty good match for Jessica’s. It’s available in a pretty bright blue with straps that are thick enough to cover your bra straps but still show some flesh. The tie waist will pull you in perfectly and give you a lovely feminine shape.

Playsuit: George at Asda

Another option is this Urban Outfitters Kimchi blue button front playsuit £10 (reduced from £48) in the sale. It’s a bit more revealing and cleavagy but the slinky fabric looks tres chic. And for £10, it’s a total steal.

Complete the look with these Office black suede slip ons for £48. There are lots of cheaper flats out there but I like that these are real suede.

To get Jessica’s natural make up, apply a hint of peach blush, a soft grey eyeshadow and a berry lipstick.

Tilda Swinton – ginger style queen

6 Jul

Tilda Swinton is barely recognisable on the cover of Candy magazine. Channelling her inner Florence, she’s sporting a long ginger wig, matching heavy eye make up and a huge golden dress by Antony Price for the special limited edition ‘extra extravagance’ issue of the transversal style magazine.

The styling by Jerry Stafford is a big departure from Tilda’s usual red carpet style of slicked back hair and suits and I like it! Plus she looks far younger than 51.

Jubilee looks for redheads

1 Jun

The shops are bursting with red, white and blue at the moment and there’s Jubilee memorabilia everywhere, so I thought I’d write a Jubilee-themed post all about the red, white and blue things I want in my life!

Red

Make up: MAC Russian Red lipstick £13.50 is a must-have in your redhead make up bag. It’s a bluish red, making it perfect for pale skinned natural redheads.

Shoes: Office Klassy Courts in red patent leather £65 are cute and curvy, they’ll look awesome with blue denim.

White

Make up: Use the white end of Bourjois Noir and Blanc pencil £5.49 on your lower waterline to make your eyes appear larger.

Shoes: Go for nude, not white when it comes to shoes and accessories. Or they’ll get really dirty!

Dress: Oasis white daisy bodice dress £60 is pretty and summery with a pretty floral bodice – on trend for the floral trend.

Blue

Make up: When it comes to blue it’s all about the metallic smoky eyes. Jemma Kidd Make up School Crushed Jewel Creme Duo in Lolite £16 has been in my make up bag for forever. Apply the creme eyeshadow as light or deeply as you want and add the jewels over the top. It’s stunning.

I’m coveting this navy lace dress from Lipsy £45, it’s got a bit of a Kate Middleton feel – it’s classy and covered up but the lace still makes it flirty.  Wear with red lipstick and the boys will be falling at your feet!

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend x

How to get Marcia Cross’ redhead leopard print style

20 May

I love leopard print and animal print in general – it’s my wardrobe staple because it’s always in fashion. My Spanish friend even calls me ‘leopardo’ because of my freckled arms!

Marcia Cross in Michael Kors leopard print dress

Bree from Desperate Housewives (aka Marcia Cross) shows how good redheads and ginger girls look in animal print. She looks so classy and demure in this Michael Kors twisted front leopard print dress, with high neckline and long arms. So here’s my pick of the best leopard print dresses for redheads, Marcia-style.

Leopard print dresses

This AX Paris leopard print dress, (£16.99) is gathered at the front like Marcia’s with a high neckline though it’s sleeveless and shorter making it perfect for wearing on a night out.

This Mela leopard print dress from New Look (£25.00 ) offers another classy animal print and I like it! This would look awesome with bright coral or fuschia pink lips.

Another way to wear leopard print and look classy is this crossover leopard print dress from Miss Guided (£25.99). I can see myself wearing this for drinks – chic and sophisticated, yet short enough not to be flirty rather than frumpy.

Own The Runway Leopard Print Dress

And finally, a cute alternative if you don’t fancy a full on animal print is this from Peter Pan leopard print collar dress (Now £19.99) from Own the Runway – available in blue or nude, with a pretty leopard print collar.

Email or tweet me a pic of you wearing animal print! X

Inspiring redheads: Scarlett Howard, Model and Actress

17 May

Scarlett Howard red hair modelScarlett Howard is a stunning 19 year old redhead model and actress, originally from Essex but currently working in London. When she’s not dazzling London with her stunning red hair and pale skin she’s also busy studying Equine and Business Studies at uni. Scarlett tells us her secrets for baby soft skin and keeping her red hair beautiful…

How did you get into modelling?
I started as a child model, before having a break to focus on school. I decided to start a modelling career at 17, and what started as a hobby quickly turned into my full time job. I was signed to IMM agency in 2011 and Leni’s Models, where I work as a fashion, lingerie and commercial model and actress.

What was your favourite modelling job?
The Select Fashion campaign – the images have been used nationwide in every Select store which was a great achievement. Another job I really enjoyed was acting in the new PayDay UK advert which is due to come out this summer. I play a pilot called ‘Ginger’ and we filmed in a real World War 2 bomber plane, keep an eye out for it!

Scarlett Howard redhead modelWho have you modelled for?
I’ve modelled for companies including Tresemme, Lynx, Harrods, Select Fashion, Britain’s Next Top Model Live, Tigi and TGI Fridays. I’ve also acted in TV and internet commercials for Skyn Condoms, Payday Uk, Blackberry Mobiles, and ‘New!’ magazine. I hope to further my career mainly in acting – I’m lucky to have worked for such big companies so far.

What’s the best thing about modelling?
The best thing is it doesn’t feel like work. Every day’s different and always fun. I get to meet lots of interesting people from different walks of life, whom I learn a lot from. I also get to travel as part of my job, and see places that I wouldn’t normally see. I’m very thankful to be doing my dream job and am loving every step of the way.

What’s the best thing about being a redhead?
Being different from the norm! It’s always good to stand out; every redhead’s unique in their own way. We are fiery and feisty and make being pale cool again!

How do you keep yourself looking so good?
My skin is ultra sensitive so rich moisturisers, cleanser and toners are a no-go, along with heavy makeup, face creams and washes. After much trial and error and wasting money on expensive products, I’ve cut all fragranced or coloured facial products out. I wash my makeup off with Johnson’s baby shampoo which doesn’t sting my eyes, and removes even waterproof mascara but leaves your face literally as soft as a baby’s bottom! I then moisturise with Aqueous Cream, which is water-based, ultra simple and cheap! Lastly, I use a dab of Sudocrem, on blemishes and spots which works better than any spot/blemish remedy or tea-tree oil I’ve used. This keeps my skin perfect; it’s definitely an advantage having a baby sibling around! Also protecting fair skin from the sun is extremely important for redheads, pale and beautiful is the way forward!

20120517-075306.jpgWhat are your favourite redhead make up products?
My favourite make up is MAC. I use a MAC Sheer pressed powder in NC40 as my everyday foundation, which is light, natural and minimal. Less is more on redheads’ skin – we’re so pale and porcelain, orange foundation is a no-no! MAC mascaras are also my favourite, as well as dark red lipsticks like MAC amplified lipstick in Dubonnet which gives a gothic yet striking look with my red hair and pale complexion.

What are your favourite hair products?
Trevor Sorbie curl cream for naturally curly hair helps keep my curls defined and less frizzy on the days I decide to go natural and curly. I also love Vo5’s ‘Give Me Texture’ oomph powder, which creates volume and texture at the roots, perfect for when volume is needed when backcombing for glamorous waves and up-dos!

Which redheads inspire you?
I was horrified to find out that most of my redhead celebrity idols are not natural! But it has to be ‘Ginger Spice’, Geri Halliwell, who made a statement being so successful with her hair colour as her main asset and name! I love redhead actress Marcia Cross as she’s stylish, elegant and classy with the most vibrant gorgeous hair! She inspires me by being such a successful actress. I also love the cartoon character ‘Jessica Rabbit’, the perfect execution of a gorgeous redhead, even if she isn’t real!

How to dress like a redhead geisha

7 May

Redhead geisha makeup

I have a long-standing fascination with geishas, oriental paintings and cherry blossoms (see geisha-inspired make up above) so I’m very over excited about the oriental geisha-style dresses in shops right now. I nearly squealed out loud when I saw this beautiful oriental dress in Oasis this weekend!

While I was looking online I also found this one from Oasis too…

A-Wear have got a pretty blue cherry blossom print top. Wear this with your ginger hair and you’ll definitely stand out in a crowd!

This is a quick post as it’s way past my bedtime but let me know if you find any other geisha style outfits! x

Playsuits for redheads

23 Apr

OK, OK it’s not very summery out there right now, but I adore playsuits. I wear them around the house when I’m getting ready for a night out (easy to slip on and off without ruining hair and make up) and they’re great for a night out because they protect your modesty when bending over or sitting down! Here are a few playsuits for redheads that I’m currently coveting.

Glamorous Hearts
This post was inspired by lovely @littlered152 who wore this pretty playsuit by BANK on a recent night out. It looked so awesome with her red hair and a black belt.

Animal print
Bring out your inner leopard with this animal print playsuit by Boo Hoo.  Great for a holiday, or dress it up with black peep toe heels and a black jacket with chunky gold bangles for a night out.

Floral playsuit
And finally, for something a little more ladylike I like this floral playsuit from Yumi with its pretty print and white belt. Anyone for tea?
